Hey folks, Harry here.... This is a film that Moriarty was chatting with me about and he was pulling one of his... 'feelings' on me... Like the time he said that Wrestling Comedy was gonna be 'Like Huge!' or like the time he said BATTLEFIELD EARTH was better than MAGNOLIA.... but he's always been a bit.... ummm... eccentric... To him the idea of two stoners searching for their car was... ummm, autobiographical? No no.... I believe he said that because the studio was placing it up against CASTAWAY that they must have big time confidence in the film.... or... they could be burying it. So we'll just have to wait and see, but Shibby here tells tale that the film is pretty bizarre and fun, but isn't the whole ball of wax yet.... They have a little time... we'll see. Here ya go with THE TRAILER and the review, beware minor spoilers...
Dude, Where's My Car?
So here it is in a nutshell- Two stoners (Ashton Kutcher and Seann Scott) wake up one morning to find out that their car is missing. Not only that, everything about the night before is deleted. They can't remember a thing. Soon they start get a phone call from their cute as a button girlfriends known only as "The Twins" on the screen(they do have names, but apparently they aren't important) yelling at them about the crazy night they had last night where they trashed the girls house. Our two stoners remember nothing about it of course, and each new person they meet while searching for their elusive auto adds a new wrinkle to the night before where they did all sorts of crazy things they don't remember.
To tell you any more about the plot would be spoil it, but it gets weirder and weirder and after a slow start, funnier too. Here are some of the highlights...
A scene where they both discover tattoos on their backs...it's a new version of "Who's on First?" and was really funny.
An early cameo by Howard Stern's Stuttering John. Went nowhere, but was funny.
The two girlfriends, played by Marla sokoloff and the stunning Jennifer Garner, who was on that Jennifer Love Hewitt show for about two weeks. After seeing this, I hope she makes a shit load of more movies...Honestly, their parts were nothing here, but they looked so hot, they must get their props for that at least...
The same can't really be said for Kristy Swanson, who has even less of a part and to be honest, looked a little shitty.
There's a couple of funny cameos by Andy Dick and Brent Spiner, which I can't really go into, cause it's just too weird to explain. Let's just say Ostriches are involved.
Hal Sparks does a pretty decent job as a cult leader who runs his religion out of his parents house.
A NEGATIVE highlight- a KISS between the two lead guys which comes out of nowhere, made no sense, had no consequences and just made everyone squirm. The scene with the kiss invloves Fabio. That's all I will say for now...
The movie tries to be the new Bill and Ted's, but as it is now, it's not exactly cutting it. It looked like they were going for a PG-13 rating when the leads are both pot smokers and all they talk about are getting blow jobs and smoking weed. There's a few laughs, and the title would have gotten me into the movie theatre. So, it will be interesting to see how people react. I must say I am torn. It could be funnier by the time it comes out, but on the whole- "Dude" will probably be one of those movies that gets terrible reviews but makes a mountain full of money.
Call me...
"Shibby"
