This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Giant Monsters, Pillow Fights, and Time Travel!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's selection of fun films from fantastic filmmakers across the globe. I hope you all had a great week and are ready for something special, because this week is rather wild. Of course that's the goal each week, so it shouldn't come as a shocker that I've picked what I consider to be some genuinely entertaining shorts. I've had a great week, full of Puscifer concerts, meetings that were actually fun, interviewing one of my personal heroes for MEET THE CREW, and I'm in Vegas currently losing money in the most enjoyable way possible. The only thing that will could possibly make it better is getting to share some wild films from talented folks who've busted their butts building a slice of cinema. I hope you all enjoy the lineup as much as I did putting it together! So without further ado, let's get this show going. Do yourself a solid and fullscreen each one of the movies below (if possible) and really let yourself in on each one of these "out there" pieces.

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

THEREFORE I AM

TRT: 6:37

To kick this shindig off right we've got a solid film from Saturday Shorts vet Peter McCoubrey. He's back with something truly special, a science fiction film that grabs you by the throat and throws you into a wildly tense six minutes that'll do more than keep your attention. "A mysterious encounter between a man who claims to be from the future and the man that he claims is his former self. A surreal psychological thriller about loss and regret. All set within the framework of a time travel story that loosely operates in accordance to the paradox-less MWI (many-worlds interpretation) in quantum mechanics." McCoubrey's given us a time travel film that feels original - something I can't help but be impressed by. Be sure to swing by the film's Facebook page or McCoubrey's website if you're curious about what else the guy has up his sleeves. (This thing is packed to the brim with solid performances, strong visuals, and a kickass score!)

THE DEAD MAN'S FACE WAS MY OWN

TRT: 7:57

Next up is Vonne Patiag with a film based on Andrew Rolfe's comic. "Detective Parker is called to a murder scene only to find the dead man has his face. As he delves deeper into his investigation, Parker begins to question his own identity as long hidden secrets from his past fall into the light. Dragging his fellow policemen and his girlfriend Patti into the mix, we find Parker may not be who he thinks he is."

PILLOW FRIGHT

TRT: 5:29

A week out and I'm finding myself a tad bummed that we have to wait another year for Halloween. Well, for the next five and a half minutes Patrick Rea is giving us a tale of terror that certainly provides the fix I think we needed. "A harmless pillow fight between a group of coeds takes an unexpectedly deadly turn." If you like what you see and want to check out a ton of great horror shorts, then head over to the Fun Size Horror page and go wild!

CATCH 'EM ALL! KILL 'EM ALL!

TRT: 3:53

Shawn Caple and the gang at Underbelly have our next short, a twisted take on Pokémon. I'll be the first to admit I missed out on the Pokémon explosion when it first hit, but it's popularity is a monster in its own right. It took the twisted minds at Underbelly to pull me in - who knew all it took was over the top kills and a dip in the Grindhouse pool? The short's fun even if you know nothing about the pocket monsters. "A group of unsuspecting Pokémon trainers unleash HELL from a Poké Ball... What if Jigglypuff was a serial killer? Underbelly combines Pokémon and slasher movies."

EXODE

TRT: 7:57

Our next film was not submitted by the film's creators, but something I caught this past week - something that rocked my world and pretty much forced me to share it with the AICN folks. I don't know much about it, but holy hell is it solid. No doubt will this movie be making the rounds at all of your favorite blogs... it's beautifully crafted and larger than life. Check out the film's website if it piques your interest!

THE LAST ABDUCTION (Trailer)

TRT: 1:15

I don't typically show trailers for shorts here, but I'm a sucker for anything extraterrestrial (damn you Whitley Strieber!) and am actually excited to see this when it's unleashed onto the web by filmmaker Frank Perrotto. "Woods Ulmann, a celebrated author of science fiction and fantasy novels becomes convinced that he's been visited by extraterrestrial beings. His marriage, his mental health, and his career begin to fall apart under the stress of dealing with the psychological damage done to him as a result of the experiences. To maintain his sanity, Woods becomes obsessed with obtaining video, audio, or physical 'proof' that these terrifying events have actually happened." Hopefully I'll get to include the film in a future Saturday Shorts. Until then, here's a taste!

Bam! That's it for this week, folks! I'll see you all next week with another handful of films that floored me. Remember, if you've got a cool idea for a film (short or feature) - don't make excuses, just go out and make it! There's nothing stopping anyone out there from creating something interesting, something that could change the world of cinema. Until then, why not take a look at some past articles - clearly not for my writing, but to see some interesting shorts from talented artists all over the world?

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
