Well, while I'm still in Atlanta, I can say that I'm not shirking my responsibilities to you. I catch my plane in a scant 6 hours, and I have decided to simply perplex you with news. That's right, I'm sending in a ton. Hell, I might even get another chapter of the Atlanta Film Festival under my belt. BUT, let's start off with the Screen Actors Guild Awards (info and some text by Robogeek)
The Screen Actors Guild Awards were handed out earlier this evening, and the big surprise was that "The Full Monty" won for "Best Ensemble Cast" (or whatever they call it), beating out "As Good As It Gets, Good Will Hunting, L.A. Confidential and Titanic.
Also, there was the first ever TIE in a category.
BEST ACTOR: Jack Nicholson (This basically seals his Oscar bid, he will win now. Given many many of the same voters will be voting, don't expect a change)
BEST ACTRESS: Helen Hunt (Same as above, all those hopes for Kate Winslet or Judy Dench or Helena Bonham Carter are gone)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Robin Williams (Gleeeeeeee! YES, my god, I had extinguished all hope that Burt Reynolds might lose the Oscar, but joy of joys. Sweet golden dude statuette please find yourself in the eloquent and spontaneous hands of Robin Williams)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: TIE - Kim Basinger and Gloria Stuart (Uh Oh! This makes for a very interesting development. I'm gonna have to say that the Academy has an older voting makeup than the Guild, thus giving it to Gloria, but then they'll probably go wacky and just hand it to someone else. I never get this category right)
Then the Directors Guild Award went to James Cameron for TITANIC. (Well... I'll say this, YIPEE!)
