KINGSMAN’s getting upgraded to a summer franchise.
The original apparently did so well in its February slot ($413.7 m worldwide) that Fox is giving the sequel a plum slot smack dab in the middle of summer ’17. It’s set to bow on June 16th, 2017, opposite CARS 3 and a week shy of WONDER WOMAN. It will also come a week after the sequels to WORLD WAR Z and FANTASTIC FOUR, if either of those projects end up getting made.
Still no word as to whether Colin Firth is returning, though the rumor that there will be a new American lead is persisting. though Taron Egerton was the star of the first film, the film was headlined by three actors whose chances of returning for the sequel are..dubious. Egerton alone won’t sell the film, especially as a big summer release, so expect Firth or an equally big American name to jump onboard sooner than later.
Now that Eggsy’s journey to becoming a gentleman spy is somewhat complete, I’m not sure where this sequel will go, storywise, but if they can get Vaughn to direct, then I’m in merely for the crazy kills, gadgets, and gags.
