Supergirl in MAN OF STEEL 2??

Umberto at Heroic Hollywood had a scoop yesterday that Braniac was going to be the likely villain in the (direct) sequel to MAN OF STEEL, which allegedly is still George Miller’s if he wants it. Today, he’s got another rumor re: what they wanna do with this Bat-free sequel, and it involves another Kryptonian who may or may not have just gotten her own network show.

Yes, the idea is that Braniac is on Earth looking not for the gene codex from the first one (which would be a ripoff and probably even more lame the second time), but for Kara Zor-El, cousin of Jor-El and also known as SUPERGIRL.

Like the Braniac rumor, this isn’t totally out of the blue: Goyer, Snyder, and Geoff Johns apparently focused solely on Kara for the MOS prequel comic. The one-off ended with Kara’s ship crashing in the north Canadian ice, setting up her presence on Earth for whenever the films decide they need her.

WB/DC is gonna have a similar problem to the MCU real soon: how do you make the standalone supes flicks as exciting as the team-ups? An easy way to do that is to highlight characters that are popular in their own right, but are still primarily associated with only one of the central heroes (Robin, Falcon, Iron Patriot…you know, sidekicks). So while Supergirl might get lost in the shuffle sharing the screen with Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Aquaman, she’ll pretty much the main attraction in MOS 2 (well, besides Braniac), particularly if they get the right actress for the role (which would be who? Chloe Moretz?Hailee Steinfeld? One of the Fannings?).

Another cool idea? That Braniac will create Bizarro in his attempt to fight against Supes and Kara (who might not even be called “Supergirl,” let’s be honest). Which will hopefully look and feel nothing like this:

Let's all spray ourselves shiny chrome and swear allegiance to the Lord George Miller to try and get him to direct this fucker, shall we??!
