Between A MILLION WAYS TO DIE IN THE WEST, TED 2, his SNL appearances, ANCHORMAN 2, and THE LEGO MOVIE, Liam Neeson has shown no reluctance towards making fun of his intense, gravel-voiced screen persona, and he might be going whole hog on his next one.
Universal has picked up THE REVENGER for Neeson to headline. Ruben Fleischer will direct, and the Writing Movies for Fun and Profit duo of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (a.k.a. Dangle and Junior) are handling script duties.
We don’t know what this is about, specifically, but come on. It’s an action-comedy called THE REVENGER starring Liam Neeson and written by the HERBIE FULLY LOADED guys. It can’t be anything other than something of a TAKEN spoof, can it? Or at least some sort of comic homage to his persona, like Brando in THE FRESHMAN?
Whatever it is, it’ll be directed by Ruben Fleischer, which guarantees it’ll be more visually dynamic than your average Harald Zwart or Shawn Levy nonsense. As for Neeson, one has to look no further than the above-pictured DARKMAN to his comedy talents on full display, but I’ll leave this clip (though you might’ve already seen it) of him on Ricky Gervais’ LIFE’S TOO SHORT for the unconvinced:
