Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We heard fairly recently that Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One was auditioning and there was a shortlist of actresses to play the role of Art3mis co-lead and ally to the main character, Wade Watts.
Olivia Cooke of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Bates Motel fame was on the shortlist and it looks like she won the role, at least according to THR.
Cooke is great. I wasn't in love with Bates Motel as a show, but she was spectacular on it and really kinda rips your still beating heart out of your chest in Me & Earl. She's definitely one on the rise. I suppose her landing this role takes her out of contention for Episode VIII, huh?
If there was any doubt that Spielberg is serious about bringing Ernie Cline's novel to life it should be close to gone now. He's put his name on many a property that he ended up not directing, but very few of those actively audition and cast up. Last one I can think of was Bradley Cooper in American Sniper, but I think Cooper was attached before Spielberg, so it's not quite the same thing.
It's really weirding me out that this is coming closer and closer to reality, but in a good way! A weird good way.
