Elizabeth Olsen confirms the main villain of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR!

We knew that Daniel Bruhl was playing Baron Helmut Zemo in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, but thanks to Elizabeth Olsen, we have an idea of just how significant his appearance will be.

In an interview with Premiere, Olsen had the following to say regarding the upcoming threequel:

Brühl is an incredible actor and he’s playing the main villain in it. And he’s incredible! It’s a movie about people as opposed to robots this time. So it’s darker and it’s allowed to be darker because it gets more in the mindset of humans rather than machines.”

So while Tony and Cap are facing off oh so spectacularly, there will be a greater threat to humanity lurking in the shadows, in the form of the guy who played Niki Lauda and Frederick Zoller.

Olsen also had this to say about her character:

“[Scarlet Witch is] someone who’s more powerful than she’s able to control and she ends up going insane because of it. And she’s like a wildcard. You never know [if] she’s a hero or a villain, and that’s a very fun part. … I think it’s going to be the best one. For real, I am very excited to see it myself. I only worked on set for five weeks. So I wasn’t there for the majority of it.”

Only in these uber-movies would “only” working for five weeks constitute a tiny supporting role, but that’s what it seems like Scarlet’s getting this time around. After all the time we spent with her and her brother last time around, I can’t complain; they got some bigger, badder heroes coming down the pipeline (including, as everyone knows, a certain NYC-born webslinger), and though they can squeeze all the old crew (sans Hulk) in there, they can’t give them all that much to do without doing disservice to the new blood.

It looks like there’s going to be nearly as much going on in CIVIL WAR, world-building wise, as there will be in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, making next summer a pretty hot battleground for Marvel and DC. I’m excited to see what Bruhl does with Zemo, and what “human” element his character has that distinguishes him from Spader’s Ultron or Hiddleston's Loki.

The interview in question is below. Cut to 1:35 for Olsen’s CIVIL WAR comments.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR will go over your Helmut on May 6th, 2016.
