It’s getting easier and easier for these guys directing these eagerly-awaited tentpoles to have each comment they make get wildly misconstrued by the public.
When Zack Snyder Instagrammed a picture of him and his son, Clay, with the caption “Boy Wonder?”, the internet immediately speculated that the younger Snyder was going to appear as Robin at some point during BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, possibly as a flashback, given that we see his defiled suit in the trailer.
Of course, that’s total shit.
“There’s a rumor that my son is [playing] Robin. It’s not true.”
So chill, homie. There’s no nepotism going on here. Robin’s cape is still waiting for your favorite young actor/actress to wear it.
I fell into the trap of looking for a Robin in this thing when they cast Jena Malone, whom many of us had hypothesized was playing Carrie Kelley from The Dark Knight Returns, but there’s been nothing in the 11 months since that rumor surfaced to suggest any veracity to that (though we still don’t know exactly who she’s playing). But I’m glad that Snyder specifically mentioned this particular rumor as being total and complete nonsense, spurred on by an obvious two-word joke he made on his private social media account.
Still, don’t think we won’t be seeing a Robin in this universe, particularly if there really are three Batfleck Batflicks in the works…
