I disliked last May’s first-season “Gotham” finale, but now I’ve also seen the first two Mooney-free season-2 episodes -- and I’m afraid I’m back on board with the Young James Gordon Adventures.
This clip is from the second-season premiere. James Frain (who played Kevin Burris on seven of the eight season-two episodes of “True Detective”) is wonderful as Galavan, but the best thing about 2.1, scripted by “Rome” co-creator Bruno Heller, is a scene with Penguin and Zsasz hanging out in somebody’s kitchen.
Less gratifying is the Bruce Wayne stuff; the episode leaps ahead one month and we learn the boy billionaire and his badass butler still haven’t been able to penetrate Dr. Thomas Wayne’s secret underground lair.
New episodes of “Gotham” return to Fox Sept. 21.
