HAND OF GOD!! What Make The Critics of Amazon’s New Ron Perlman Vigilante Judge Series??

I am – Hercules!!

After Ron Perlman was written out of “Sons of Anarchy,” he landed on “Hand of God,” playing a judge who thinks God might be telling him what to do. Judge of Arc, if you will.

The new show was created by Ben Watkins, who wrote a bunch of “Burn Notice” episodes between 2011 and 2013. Actors Garrett Dillahunt and Dana Delany are aboard as well.

Amazon made the pilot available a year ago (I thought it terrible) but the other nine episodes of “Hand’s” first season hit the streaming service on Friday.

The New York Times says:

... a cautionary example of the pitfalls of the new style of serialized drama. It’s trying to do several things at once, but it doesn’t feel particularly layered or complex — it’s as if ideas and subplots are being thrown in to fill out the running time. …

The Los Angeles Times says:

... If Amazon's new vigilante drama "Hand of God" were a better show, Garret Dillahunt might be up for an Emmy this time next year. …

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:

... falls more in the “good” range than “great,” but it’s certainly watchable if a bit poky in its plotting in early episodes. …

The San Francisco Chronicle says:

... The script is both the show’s saving grace and the primary element keeping “Hand of God” from being better than it is. At times, the pace is beyond lugubrious and the show wallows in dripping atmosphere with little substance. …

The Boston Globe says:

... it’s awfully wearing, like having your nose rubbed in malevolence and turgidity, without offering up enough character drama to make it worthwhile. …

Variety says:

... a thoroughly ill-conceived and unpleasant series …
