Hey folks, Harry here... Seems that Dreamworks has begun the promotional screenings for THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE, and from the sound of Tommy D... it looks like the movie might actually be worth while. In keeping with the tagline, "It Was Just A Moment Ago," Dreamworks is sending film critics and entertainment editors a Fossil Watch with a little card saying the same quote. Just so y'all know. Here's the review...
Hey Harry
Tonight at University of Tennessee, we held a special sneak preview of The Legend of Bagger Vance. This was part of Dreamworks plan to spread the word of mouth about this film.
The film is the latest starrring Matt Damon and Will Smith, but the real surprise is Charlize Theron. Her performance is 10 times the work she did in Cider House Rules and other films that required her to act. Her character is the one that sets the whole ball rolling organizing the tournament that make Rudolf Junan (Damon) return to the sport that he loves/hates. Will Smith character is a mystery. Is he a ghost or a wise man? However he does actually stay out of the Will Smith persona. He is very low key and focused. Matt Damon is the focus, Will Smith is not. Another surprise is the performance by the young kid in the movie. He is incredible, Robert Redford has once again found a genuis of a child actor.
Dreamworks has their work cut out here trying to promote this. It is either a comedy/drama about golf or a romantic drama set during the depression. The score is very strong and proves that Rachel Portman is the next James Horner. I expect Oscar pushes for Theron, Redford, cinematography and score.
