Alright, Harry here with another wonderful accounting of Porkboy's adventures in the land of the BlairWitch Webfest. Yesterday, I commented about how much I approve of this sort of promotion for a film. And I do. This isn't just slapping a bunch of trailers on tv and screens and online... this is creating a happening where a lot of people that love a certain genre of film can come and meet and listen to some of the top people in the field they love... talk and show their love for the world of Horror. I'm serious. George Lucas and the Star Wars folks will create a big almighty Star Wars convention in Denver.... but did they bring in folks like... Oh... let's say Gil Gerard, Erin Grey, John Agar, the Galactica folks, non-Star Wars writers, Robert Wise, Shatner, Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Ridley Scott, Bob Burns, and on and on and on? No. Here... It was about more than just THE BLAIR WITCH... but they were smart enough to create a happening that would carry their brand name across the top of everything that came to pass. I LIKE THAT. That's cool. Sure, you'll have folks promoting other studio product... but at the same time... it'll say THE BLAIR WITCH WEBFEST PRESENTS... so-n-so... Once again... let me turn it over to the wonderful Porkboy... here ya go...
Blairwitch Webfest --Day3 report--
Hey Harry,
Porkboy here again with total coverage of the third and final day of the Blairwitch webfest. Sorry for those fans that wanted to know about the first day of the show but I did not attend. Anyway, I dont wanna blabber on about my reasons and so on so I will just start reporting. The show started almost 1 hour late pissing me and many others off in special ways. Anyways, the schedule for this show looked mighty good with many interviews, bands playing, and news I have to find out! Remmember people, this is a horror convention so, lets try and act decent.
~Kim Director (Actor in BW2)~ Kim came on 1 hour late but you got to love her. She just has that special goth look in her that makes you wa....alright, Im getting carried away. Many questions were asked about how she felt playing a goth, how the auditions went, and how her acting career took off when she was 15. Some interesting things she said were her roles in many Spike Lee movies such as Summer of Sam, Hes got game, Bamboozled, and Kings of Comedy. When she was asked about upcoming projects she said her main project is coming back to reality and finding an apartment in NYC. Now the good part about the interview. She said that she was asked to take role as a bond girl in an upcoming bond movie and nothing is being turned down. Josh from BW1 is currently working on 7 movies!!! and those are real movies people!! Last but not least, Kim said that the third BW film is not offical as of yet but word has it that the movie is going to be a prequel!
~Marsha Smith (Wicca Priestess) and Doug McFarren (Author)~ They talked about wicca and the religon of witchcraft. Nothing was mentioned that I already heard from the past days. Very Boring so I will move on to the next interview!
~Mick Garris (Director of the "The Stand")~ This interview was wonderful! This man was very nice and gave some great info to my questions and many others! He spoke about horror movies in general and mainly the bad price of many sequels. He spoke of writing techniques and even gave a large question/answer session about the stand and Shining. He says he will one day like to work with James Elroy (LA Confidential) and Ray Bradbury. He also gave quick insight about his many upcoming horror projects. Deperations, Riding the bullet, and a 3-d Imax based on Kings Sun God.
~Bill Warren (Author)~ William Malone is a true horror expert in my opinion. His insights about past movies and upcoming ones are great to hear and acknowledge. He discussed the evolution of horror from the 1950's to present day. He is also a huge Evil dead fan as myself and when I asked him if a new Evil dead will be coming out he said that its not out of the question. Sam Raimi is currently making Spider-Man but right now a script could be underway for the 4th installment to Ashs adventures!! It would be written by Raimi but would not be directed since Raimi was never a big horror fan. AWESOME!!! He then spoke of many many many horror movies and his views on whats scary and whats not. Bill spoke about a couple Stephen king novels being put to film. Insomnia and Rose Red will be made to movies and the regulars will not be made to a movie.
~William Malone (Director, "House on Haunted Hill," "Tales From the Crypt.")~ William is a great guy and fun to speak with. Anyway, I got right to the point and asked him about upcoming projects and if Tales from the Crypt would come back for a series. He said that they are trying to bring it back but right now nothing is happening. He said he would love to bring it back but as of now nothing is going on. He said he is making an independent film called Fear.com with the haunted internet as a plot. Also, in secreted works is a Michael Jackson project. HOLY SHIT!! WE FOUND A WINNER TO HIS NEXT SCARY MOVIE!! ugh..if they show his face im gonna shit! Anyway, Williami talked about Outerlimits and some of his past works. He spoke of 2 endings in House on Haunted Hill and with the one they did not use, the girl gets out of the window just in time before the ghost kills her but I guess they took that out. he then discussed many other deleted scenes in the movies and started speaking about making an HP Lovecraft film since he loves his writing.
~SCIFI.COM sponsors chat with horror genre experts~ As above, Scifi did a phone conversation with some horror experts, which I am not familiar with. Some were from different publications including Fangoria and others were from website and media clients that take part in horror marketing. The chat was interesting but nothing for me here. I am hungry for upcoming movies, not marketing techniques of the BW. This little phone chat was very interesting to listen to becuase they went through tons of movies and disected them to show what makes it scary and very pleasing to the audience.
~Marilyn Manson~
Yep, you heard me right, Marilyn Manson came to the Blairwitch webfest to promote the BW2 soundtrack. I am very eager to speak with him concerning his hidden horror project which is rumored to be in the works. Hopefully I can make him mutter a word. The interview was on the phone like most of them today. I was expecting him to show up live but I guess he doesnt care for conventions. Anyway, many questions were passed between his music and his satanic being. He cleared up many rumors about his different living habits. He talked about the BW2 soundtrack and music he listens to. He also talked about his music company, Napster vs. him, his new book Holywood coming out next year, and many more things. Now, the moment we have all been waiting for!!! Future plans with Manson orignally were to make "Holywood", his book, go into theaters. That idea was later turned down do to the content in which it states. Possibly an animated feature would be going on for "Holywood" instead. Manson is planning to make a film with the director of "Holy Mountain" and he will also be playing a cowboy in a movie called "Able Cain". Haha, I gotta see that!! Someone even asked Manson if he would ever be a guest on SNL (Saturday Night Live) but Manson wasnt to pleased with that even though that would be funny to see. When the chat was over, the person intrduced the upcoming guest being Poe plugging in her new soundtrack and Manson said that he kissed her. Interesting!
~Poe (music artist) and brother Mark Danielewski (author)~ Poe and Mark both discuss their recent works. Poe discusses his new album entitled "Haunted" and Mark discusses upcoming books. Both are very excited becuase Poe will be preforming later tonight. Im curious to hear what it sounds like becuase everyone in this webfest are saying they are great.
~Robert Atkins (game designer of BW game)~ Robert starts off the interview/chat with questions right away. He speaks about all the games and moves over to the 3rd game in this trilogy of BW games. I asked him a question if these games would move to other consoles such as Playstation2 and he said its for sure a great possibilty. I also asked if the movie trilogy would be turned into games and he says right now nothings happening but everything is possible. Rob then talks about the game mechanics, game story, and soooooooooooo much game info that I can basiclly piss in my pants. This game is going to be amazing along with the previous games for this awesome trilogy.
In the evening of the day, some special things were shown to all the loyal fans in this webfest. Anthony Ferrante and Tod Rex demonstrated some Special FX tips and even made a quick massacre of Steven Felty (Actor) face and that was very helpful for many FX hopefulls in the near future!! Dr. Denise Dumars and Dr. Lollie Ragana then discuss the demonization of women as witches and take a look at the history of witch burnings. All the developers of the three PC BW games all spoke together in a big chat and that was fun as well. Finnally to start off the night activies are the performers, Sci-Fi Lullaby.
The writer of "Childs Play" and "Bride of Chucky" did not attend the convention so on short notice, Tim Tipone of Fangoria magazine took over and gave a great question/answer session about all the upcoming horror movies in the future. He went through movies in the 50s all the way to present day. He then spoke all about the magazine and it was wonderful.
~Bill Mosely (Actor, "TCM2," "House of 1000 Corpses," "Army of Darkness," "The Convent")~ This was my favorite interview of this whole damn convention!! My god was he the best!! He answered all my questions I asked, gave insight about upcoming movies, did a Chop-Top impression, and was as funny as ever! This man deserves his on comedy special! He added that House of 1000 corpses is gonna be a major hit to Texas chainsaw fans and All-American Massacere (TCM5) will be a 30 min movie made by Tony Hooper, Tobes son. He said to us that Chop-Top will ride again!! Also, he discussed the upcoming movie, "The Convent". You should check out this guys website at ChopTopsBBQ.Com and ConventMovie.Com for the Convent trailer which is awesome!!!
Alright, All the interviews were over and everyone was transported to the woods in Maryland. A live webcast is shown of some kids and a tour walking a loooooooooong trail to "Coffin Rock". Pretty funny stuff when they try to react the whole scene. Then once they reach their point, the webfest changes to some awesome magic tricks by this magician from the Black Hills party. His guy is awesome, wouldnt mind him doing magic tricks at my party, haha. Anyway, we get 30 minutes of this guy and each minute is worth it!!
Now the moment we have all been waiting for!! The whole BW2 cast has a live chat/interview. The cast answers many questions about the BW2 movie. They talked about the auditions they went through, the idea and concept of the movie, etc. I asked the cast about their upcoming projects and Kim Director is in the Spike Lee movie, "Bamboozled" and Jeff is making project called "Purpose" with Mia Ferra coming to theaters next year. Shooting for the film begins after the BW2 premiere. All the staff were very friendly and it seems they are one big family. They answered tons of questions about the movie but I really really dont wanna spoil anything for you guys, lets just say this movie sounds like the biggest porno ever! I infact think this cast is really fun and I believe that if Mike was added to this, they should win best Onsmble cast at the SAG awards. J/king.
Poe performed their new album, "Haunted." I didnt care to listen but most people say it was a wonderful performance. The Witchmix winners were later announced and finnally back at the live Black Hills party, there was a band called Godhead who performed in the woods. I did not listen to them as well but I hear that was a wonderful performance as well.
Alright people, My job here is done, Porkboy is signing off from the Blairwitch webfest2000. I hope you enjoyed my coverage and if you have any questions, stick them up your piehole. IF YA SMELLLLLLL!! Alright, dont cry everyone, I will be back to give tons of horror news weekly if Harry doesnt mind me e-mailing him scoops.
