We caught a glimpse of this when a short spot for it played during the Super Bowl, but now we get a glimpse of what’s actually going on in Jason Moore’s studio comedy.
At first I thought Tina Fey was playing against type as the wackier, more OTT sister, but it quickly becomes apparent that they’re both playing wackadoo arrested development cases, complete with goofy '80s costumes, oversexed attitudes, and a lingering desire to party like high schoolers (with hair like Olivia Newton-John's) well into their 40s.
Then again, I can’t say this is looks that much dumber or more juvenile than the scores of male-driven goofouts we’ve seen since ANIMAL HOUSE, so I guess I can chalk up my disappointment re: Fey and Poehler sinking this low to equal opportunity shitty filmmaking.
Still, somehow, I expected more than a less-interesting riff on NEIGHBORS (complete with supporting role for Ike Barinholtz). Let’s hope this trailer, unlike Fey’s party outfit, isn’t showing all the goodies right out front.
SISTERS may or may not have Margot Kidder cameoing as a cab driver (probably not) on December 18th.
