I rather liked Antoine Fuqua’s OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN - mostly due to its uncompromising and sometimes wrenching brutality. Its assholes overrunning the White House sequence is easily one of the more disturbing and viscerally brilliant action movements I’ve seen on screen in quite some time.
This said, by the end of OLYMPUS, I wasn’t necessarily falling over myself to see another entry into this ‘verse.’ The picture felt like it accomplished what set out to accomplish, and did so earnestly and well. I didn’t sense that its gag had any further destination which was worth visiting.
Nonetheless, The Powers That Be felt otherwise, so here’s a look at LONDON HAS FALLEN. It's due on screens this January, with much of the film’s original cast returning. To be clear, I totally don’t mind that this film is happening…I’m just not at all convinced that this film needed to happen. Fingers crossed that it earns its keep…
