Real Audio Interview with LL COOL J regarding ROLLERBALL!

Hey folks, Harry here... And ya know... the interview that LL COOL J has given and can be accessed below at the French Premiere site... well... It kind of depressed me. First off he begin slagging a bit on the original ROLLERBALL by talking up the editing and 'montage' stylings that 'McT' (McTiernan) is bringing to the film. Well... Ya know, I hate to break it to the Cool J... but fast editing on a film like this doesn't necessarily make those scenes better or more intense. The long takes of the original film stressed the actual speed at which the skaters were skating... the ferocity of their impacts and the visceralness of it all.... Does cutting faster make the car chases since... BULLIT and THE FRENCH CONNECTION better? Ummmm no, because in those films... you got a very real sense of motion and speed... as opposed to moving the camera all over. Next he talks about how ROLLERBALL is to him now just a popcorn movie, they're just making a popcorn movie... and FOLKS... this was the problem when they shifted scripts. The original script was a brilliant action, suspense sports film... coupled with an amazingly well thought out society that needs and feeds off of the violence and carnage of Rollerball... and how Jonathan E posed a very real threat to that society... as well as how a Corporate World Order was brought about. But fuck that riiiiiight? Shit, why on earth make an intelligent film, which thrills and chills both in action and emotion... when you can make a popcorn flick. Sigh... Here ya go.... I'm probably over-reacting, but... well unfortunately this was a project that I really once cared about. Here ya go....
