Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I recently asked my Twitter stream to reply to me with their favorite practical effects moments from films and then proceeded to retweet the many dozens of replies... I should apologize to all my non-bot followers for flooding your feed, but I was blown away by the varied responses I got. Lots of stills from Harryhausen to Weta.
I'm a practical effects fiend and it seems many of you out there are as well. So you can understand why I got a little giddy at the prospect of offering up a small piece of practical effects history as a giveaway.
Online auction house PropStore is launching a Rick Baker auction next week and in preparation for that they've given me a piece of pop history to give away to one of you lucky sumbitches! Yes, it is one of Rick Baker's foam latex zombie face appliances for Michael Jackson's Thriller.
For makeup and practical effects nerds that's just about the coolest thing ever and it could be yours! To win all you gotta do is prove that you're a makeup effects fan by showing me evidence of you creating your own creature. I'd like to see photos or video of you designing, making and applying some kind of prosthetic effect. That doesn't mean I'm looking for the next Dick Smith, Rob Bottin, Rick Baker or Greg Nicotero. If you use pre-made materials, but do something unique and awesome with it that'll work just as well. I'm looking for creativity here.
The contest is open worldwide and runs from right this very second to 10:00pm CST Thursday, May 28th. Email me your submission to this email address and show me your creepy side! Make sure to include your mailing address and contact phone number in case you win.
Also make sure to stop by the PropStore website and check out the other Rick Baker stuff up for auction. Lots of amazing window shopping to be had. There are Gremlins 2 puppets, stuff from MiB, Harry and the Hendersons, Mighty Joe Young and much, much more.
The auction begins 11am May 29th. If only I was a richer man I'd get me a pair of them Harry and the Hendersons feet!
Good luck to all who enter into the contest. I leave you now with some cool Thriller images to inspire you folks!
