The Restoration of Genius.... Preserving the Art of Kubrick!

Hey folks, Harry here with some very special coolness that I've come to learn about. We all know about the 2001 restoration and planned release for the turn of the millenia this New Years. The digital sound... the image restoration.... all of this was allegedly underway with supervision by Kubrick before he passed on. Well, the work on 2001 has been well underway and nearing completion at an... ahem... unnamed company. Always the man for secrets... even in the afterlife he's shrouded in mystery.
Well, 2001 is not the only one receiving the treatment. It seems that even before its completion... work has begun on several other Kubrick classics. Specifically... DOCTOR STRANGELOVE, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, BARRY LYNDON, THE SHINING and FULL METAL JACKET. New Stereo tracks and print remasters are underway for all of these films... ahem... so ya know that box set of DVDs ya bought... well hang on to them... that's probably the last unfiddled with prints of Kubrick's films you'll get. Not that they are ruining them... quite to the contrary... the work I've heard is genius great... but you know how us geeks are... playing with sound direction... when Kubrick intended Mono... well... Ya know, fine... fine fine... just so long as I have my original masterful dvd set.. I'll be happy... and as for these new restored prints... Well, SPARTACUS looked grande... I'm sure 2001 will too. The work is in capable hands I've been assured... allegedly some ol friends of Stanley's.
Specifically I've heard that the print of THE SHINING is immaculate. It is unknown if Wendy Carlos' score has been rerecorded or remixed yet, but the rest of the sound work is complete. There are secretive discussions going on even now as to whether these prints will be rereleased (THE EXORCIST's rerelease success for Warners does help) or just remastered for DVD super editions. Be rest assured that I will be looking into this further... But ain't it exciting?
