Lord and Miller are indeed working on THE FLASH...but will they direct?!!

At this point, it’s not what projects you want Phil Lord and Chris Miller to work on…it’s what they want to work on. And that MIGHT be THE FLASH.

We learned earlier this week that the duo was in discussions to work with WB/DC on their upcoming FLASH feature (unrelated to the current CW FLASH TV series). It’s been confirmed by various outlets that they are, indeed, currently working on a treatment for the film that will feature WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN/PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER star Ezra Miller in the title role.

But we want them to direct, right?

Well, apparently that guy-centric GHOSTBUSTERS flick is the biggest competition for the pair’s attention. So what you have is two major studios playing tug-of-war with each other to sign two of the hottest directors in the industry for two extremely hot properties. Like Jeremy said on Monday, “It’s good to be Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And their agents and managers.”

The GHOSTBUSTERS property probably has more attention from non-geeks, but THE FLASH fits more into their M.O.: specifically, taking projects that don’t sound amazeballs right off the bat and rendering them into something both enormously fun and magnanimously human. A FLASH movie doesn’t sound like the sexiest thing in the world, especially from a marketing perspective. But a FLASH movie directed by the 21 JUMP STREET/LEGO MOVIE guys?? All of a sudden you have a tone you can sell, and the beginnings of a campaign.

I don’t think the question is whether WB will like what Lord/Miller are cooking up for them; I think it’s about the kind of dinero they’re willing to shell out to get these guys onboard. ‘Cause I don’t think Sony’s gonna be sparing any kind of expense to nab them if the Bros. Warner drop the ball. Another possibility: could scheduling work out so that we could get their takes on both THE FLASH and GHOSTBUSTERS??

Would you want Lord/Miller directing the first big-screen Barry Allen (or Wally West) adventure? If not, then who?

THE FLASH will literally run circles around the other JUSTICE LEAGUErs on March 23rd, 2018.
