Disney extends IMAX contract to 2017! Giant Sized Star Wars, Marvel and Pixar guaranteed!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here, reporting in from the future... technically. As I write this it's Thursday morning and there's a typical and beautiful gloomy gray Wellington sky out the window. I've been sulking around New Zealand for a couple weeks and am in my final week here. The trip is quasi-vacation, but I've gotten my nose into some interesting movie-related things while here. Oooooo, vague!

One of the nice things about being down here is that when I wake up the US is gearing down, so I've been able to focus on some other writing, catching up on some AICN stuff that's been boiling for a while and just being plain old lazy. However there are a couple things I woke to this morning that I felt needed some love here on this crazy little site of ours.

IMAX and Disney have renewed their deal to release Disney's tentpole slate through 2017. Yes, that includes Rian Johnson's Episode 8.

Also included in the deal is the Star Wars Spin-Off, ROGUE ONE, Marvel's Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok, Pixar's Finding Dory and Toy Story 4 and Pirates 5, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass, The Finest Hours and Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book.

I'm excited to check out Marvel's stuff big, but if I'm gonna be honest I'm most excited for giant-sized Star Wars, especially since we know Abrams has already shot some Episode 7 sequences with IMAX cameras. It's reasonable to assume Johnson will likely shoot some of Episode 8 with IMAX cameras as well.

Blow ups are fine, but there's something extra special to seeing actual IMAX format-shot stuff on that giant screen.

Thoughts?
