Phil Lord & Chris Miller Reportedly Wanted For THE FLASH, GHOSTBUSTERS, TED & ALICE!

Phil Lord Chris Miller

Jeremy here...

It's good to be Phil Lord and Chris Miller. And their agents and managers. And their spouses. And their children, if they have any. And their bookies, provided they have a serious gambling problem and bet a shitload of dough on Kentucky to with the 2015 NCAA Men's National Championship.

Studios can't announce a tentpole motion picture without the usual scoopin' suspects unveiling a shortlist of potential directors that includes Lord and Miller. They're the miracle workers who turned 21 JUMP STREET into a massively successful big-screen franchise, and located the heart in the brand-expanding errand THE LEGO MOVIE. They're remarkably clever writers with a classic Pixar sense of story structure. Of course every studio in town wants a piece of them.

So don't let your jaw drop too far when I tell you that, according to El Mayimbe (via Jeff Sneider's "Meet the Movie Press"), the duo are reportedly in the discussion for DC's feature rendition of THE FLASH. Meanwhile, Sony has circled back around to see if they'd be interested in helming their other GHOSTBUSTERS movie, to which Lord & Miller's 21 JUMP STREET stud Channing Tatum is attached (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR directors Joe and Anthony Russo are only producing GHOSTBUSTERS, TOO).

If you had your druthers, what would you choose? Given that Lord & Miller are two of the most visually inventive studio filmmakers working today, I think I'd much rather see them on THE FLASH. I mean, if you thought the Quicksilver sequence in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was cool, imagine what these two could do with the same premise. Besides, I still don't fully understand the purpose of GHOSTBUSTERS, TOO (some have said it's the "scary one", but Feig's is going to be scary as well), so I'd hate to see them spin their wheels developing something with too many disparate voices in the mix (e.g. Ivan Reitman).

This are just rumors for now, so don't get too invested in either idea. These filmmakers are currently fielding a ton of offers.

Here's the "Meet the Movie Press" video for your viewing pleasure.
