Our first real word on GET CARTER

Hey folks... and you too A.B., Harry here with what I do believe is the first look at GET CARTER of any real length... I've seen a couple of 50 word tidbits... but nothing of significance. Now... here's the thing... This review isn't a plant... it discusses pros and cons... and comes out eventually in favor of the film... SOOOooo, why would Warners not hold Press Screening and Promotional Screenings? Sure... Stallone doesn't typically make... critic friendly films... but people that go to Stallone films tend to dig them... it's HIS people. The whole point of letting the critics see the film... is to get front page pics of Stallone looking like a badass to inspire through market penetration.... the idea that STALLONE IS COMING. By not screening it, there ends up with only a void and an open hostility. Anyways... here's Mildew...

Caught a sneak preview of Get Carter last night. What's good about this film? The acting. Hands down Stallone rules this movie. He is a bad ass like no other. The rest of the cast does a fine job especially Mickey Rourke and John McGinley. Rachael Lee Cook is cute as always and pulls her own. I feel bad for Alan Cumming because although he brings alot of energy to the role he is given the worst lines in the movie. Saying things like "I have a gazillion dollars, and I have more money then God." set him up for cheeseville. But he shines in his final scene in the woods.

While watching the film I thought this looks like director Stephen Kay's first big time feature, and a check to the IMDB shows I was right. The reason was that through the entire film he looks like he is trying really hard to do some cool stuff with the camera to impress. And I have to commend him as he takes some risks, which sometimes work like the sped up fight scenes and this cool flash of white with a jump cut (could be the editor) and sometimes it doesn't (the entire frame turning upside down to symbolize Stalone's world turning upside down). But at least he isn't playing it easy. I'm sure as he continues to direct more features he'll work the bugs out. It almost looks like he watched Stigmata and thought "Hmmm some of this stuff would work in an action movie, and not just a horror movie."

Another cool part of this movie is the sound track. It's really good and inspired by Moby. I liked it so much I hope they release the music as a cd.

So I loved the acting, the direction, the editing, the soundtrack, but I still can't say that I loved this movie. I really wanted to but the script just got in the way. It dragged at times, the lines were bad at times, and the plot just doesn't' stay on a nice course. And when you finally see what is on the cd you kind of wonder why everyone is freaking out. True Stalone should be mad and the guy on the cd should be scared but I still don't understand why all the bad guys are scared. It's a little disappointing because Get Carter had all the pieces in place to really kick ass but they needed at least one more re-write on this script to make it great. In the end it's a three star, B-, slightly positive movie.
