Hey folks... Check this out, Harry here with the word out from Terry Pratchett about the future of his projects and how they may or may not intersect with those of one Terry GIlliam... who's currently at work on his bizarre Don Quixote flick... Read on...
Hi Harry,
My name is Bob X (I run a German site called mad4movies.de). Yesterday (sept.27) I had the pleasure of attending a book-signing with a certain Terry Pratchett who turned out to be as funny in person as he is as a writer. Before he sat down to sign (in a bizarre Karate Kid-esque outfit) he chose to answer a few questions which he mostly asked himself since he already "knew what they were anyway". He mentioned that he just finished a 26th Discworld book which is going to be mostly about chocolate (?!) and that a 27th is already in the works (he usually starts a new book the day he finishes the old one). The he went on to talk about the possibility of a Discworld movie. According to him it's been constantly in and out of production hell for the last ten years, with always one element missing - either money, star or director. Right now, he said, they have the money and a director (sadly he didn't mention a name) but no star.
Even more interestingly though, he said that he is still in talks with Terry Gilliam about Good Omens. As it looks now "Good Omens WILL definitely be the next Terry Gilliam movie". The he added "but then a lot of things are definitely going to be the next Terry Gilliam movie".
I just hope this turns out to really be THE next Terry Gilliam movie. Pratchett seemed to be not overly fond of Hollywood, saying that most people he met there were people he "wouldn't let into his house" and that were "pretty low in the food chain". But at least he and Giliam seem to like each other, so Pratchett probably has a personal interest in Mr. "Brazil" taking over his project.
sincerely yours,
Bob X
