Father Geek aqui con otro Latin-AICN column for Tuesday morning, LOBO has another great report for all of you fans of Spanish language cine, and ol' Coffin Joe gives us some info from down in Brazil too. There's a pretty phantastic group of photos from that Chilean futuristic flick PACHITO REX too.... FRIDA'S cast is set, and Father Geek can't wait for this feature. I've visited alot of the murals painted by the characters depicted in this flick and love them. I've read a ton on Rivera and Siqueiros, and their times, some of the stories are pretty damn fantastic. One of my favorites concerns the painting of Rivera's great mural at Rockefeller Center in New York where Rivera portrayed the owner of Standard Oil as a green skinned, money grubbing vampire/ghoul on his huge commissioned mural... tooo cooool. Of course Rockefeller hired some hack to repaint the image...
Que pasa CineRaza... the LATIN-AICN crew is back one more time.. I (LOBO) have got a lot of news this time and some reviews on some of those exploitation movies like the one called "NUNS WITH GUNS", and also the rest of the info on PACHITO REX...hope you folks like the stuff...Vamos ..!

EL CHANGO here..
No màs por no dejar... I'm sending you two quickies you might find interesting. Hope next week's report is a little juicier for you!
** Maria Novaro´s new picture has a new name… it’s SIN DEJAR HUELLA (formerly QUE NO QUEDE HUELLA), and debuts in the San Sebastian Film Festival. She’s also preparing her new project, an adaptation of the book ‘Guerra en el Paraiso’ (War in Paradise) by Carlos Montemayor that deals with the Mexican Army and will be very controversial.
** Word on the grapevine says that Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia may finally get to direct a new FU MANCHU movie. I had already told AICN readers about this project a while ago, but things seem to be getting better for the project… Antonio Banderas may be playing the lead, and Michael Caine will also be in the cast. Let’s hope the film gets made… LA COMUNIDAD, De la Iglesia’s new film, had a great debut at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
FRIDA
Well CineLocos it seems that the cast for the movie "FRIDA" is ready, that's right..this movie that is going to be about the life of FRIDA KAHLO is getting closer to start filming. As you all might know by now, this is the movie where SALMA HAYEK is playing Frida, not Jennifer Lopez, and more people have being chosen to be part of this film. The rest of the cast is formed by ANTONIO BANDERAS, EDWARD NORTON, ASHLEY JUDD and ALFRED MOLINA. The movie is going to be directed by Julie Taymor and is going to be produced by SALMA'S production company "Ventanarosa". ANTONIO BANDERAS is going to play the character of the great muralist David Alfaro Siqueiros, EDWARD NORTON will play multi-millionaire industralist Nelson Rockefeller and ALFRED MOLINA is going to be playing the role of the legendary painter Diego Rivera. This time ANTONIO and SALMA don't get to be the couple as they were on "Desperado". The movie script was written by RODRIGO GARCIA who is the son of Gabriel Garcia Marquez (the Great novelist from Colombia..one of my favorite writers), so the story has to be really good to have this cast, I hope from this movie the best and I hope they show some of Diego's and Siqueiros's Murals as well as the portraits of Frida.
LA BANDA DEL TRANSAM ROJO / The Red TransAm's Gang
The reason I am reviewing this is the cover art, I mean on the cover as you can see there are two guys wearing masks from Star Wars Episode I, and not just that ..I mean.. this guys are gangsters that rob places.. so they are actually part of the darkside of the force, specially the one with the mask of Darth Maul, but instead of having cool weapons from Star Wars they just have a normal shotgun and a 45. That is why I had to check this flick, write a little review and show you the cover.

This movie is about a Gang that uses Red TransAms to do their crimes, the Gang is formed by two brothers that have a Police officer as their Father, but that gives them a bigger adrenaline rush and their evil adventure is more intense. They use a red TransAm to do all of their crimes, their sister asks them to stop doing all of that because if their father finds out, he will kill them. But the don't listen and later they decide to go to the Job of "Julian" (one of the brothers) and steal everything from the safe, but after they got all of the money and gold coins that were inside it, they also notice that there is a plaque to make fake Dollars, so they also take it, and that is when the whole "Action" starts bacause the owner of that plaque is a Mob Daddy called "Quiñones" who won't rest until he gets the plaque. This movie is one more of those exploitation flicks....where from my own point of view the "action" here isn't that good but it is funny..watching the stunts get shot and fall in a nice and clean spot in a very comfortable position..that is funny and even more the "special effects" and the lines the actors have to say...that for me is torture and I have a really good time watching this flicks..they are funky and funny..full of Jet-Li's wanna bees..Mob Daddies..Gangsters and butterfaces girls...So if you want to see a funky movie and laugh check this out and don't miss the scene with the E2 Gangsters.
PACHITO REX

Well CineLocos and close followers of this column..as I mentioned last week..this time I have more about that movie called PACHITO REX. This movie as I said last report is about the assassination of a singer and TV conductor called PACHITO RUIZ who at the moment of his assassination he is the leader in the presidential elections of a imaginary country in Latin America.

PACHITO REX is a movie that I will call "rare" and I say rare because sounds really weird and crazy, it takes you to very cool looking places and also travels into the past, present and future.

....This is the MORGUE
This movie has a lot of time-scenes, where even the makers of this film had to give those time-scenes names from A to I, for example the TS-A (Time SCENE - #) takes place six months after PACHITO'S death and has some Architecture language and also there is two Architects talking about a new building and contest of Design, they end up arguing and no one wins the contest, so the Blue-print and the model are just that and never get to be part of a city, just dreams. TS-B takes place 20 years after PACHITO'S assassination attempt, but he survived and he even won the elections and became President of that imaginary country, the Blue-print and the model win the contest and the Architect starts building.TS-C is 3 years after PACHITO'S death and is about a journalist that wants to solve the case, because the government hasn't found the real killer and the journalist even thinks that the formal President had something to do with the crime.

....This is PACHITO'S grave.
So this is how this movie is going to be in some parts, you go thru a lot of different times, different results and different characters, there is even one TS that travels 1,350 years which sounds really cool, that is about an Anthropologist that discovers PACHITO'S grave and what is left over from his corpse and also finds a CD-ROM that has some info about PACHITO'S life, but the CD doesn't exist no more and is consider and antique, but he manages to get the info just like they have doing it from the Glyphics on the Mayan and Egyptian pyramids, so he thinks that PACITO was a king who tried to take over a city and help the people, there is also a TS that travels to the past and is about how PACHITO started his career and about his life as a teenager.

...This is the JAIL
The film has FABIAN HOFMAN as the Director, and i the cast there is JORGE ZARATE as PACHITO, ERNESTO GOMEZ CRUZ, ANA OFELIA MURGUIA, CARLOS COBOS, DAMIAN ALCAZAR (LEY DE HERODES,BAJO CALIFORNIA, EL LIMITE DEL TIEMPO) and LISA OWEN.

This movie has to be good, it is going to be good, and best of all they said that the DVD is going to be an interactive release and that is going to have 3 more stories that the Film shown in theaters won't show. Be alert on this one and don't even think about not checking this out because you are really going to regret it.
Well CineLocos that is all from me your pal (LOBO) see you next week with more..and This is for those folks that besides the movies are also into ROCK en Español.. EL TRI is right now on Tour..so try to see if they are going to your town..Viva El Rock...!!

-This week director Andrucha Waddington came over here to my college in São Paulo , flying from Rio . He was kind and really enthusiastic during the whole Q&A which happened in the main auditorium , packed with film , TV and advertising students . He talked about both of his films , showing trailers for the two : " Gêmeas " (*Twins) and " Me , You , Them " , which is probably gonna running for best foreign film next year if Sony Pictures Classics does their job right , like they did with Central Station . Speaking quickly he told us about " Gêmeas " , which he said helped him practice his craft , preparing for " Me , You , Them " . Other stuff came up too , such as the cut footage that dealt with this whole noirish/revenge subplot with Darlene´s younger man . They decided that it felt out of place in the middle of this wonderful lighthlighthearted comedy . Also the Miramax Frida Kahlo movie did come across him at Cannes this year , but it went to someone else , even so he made some suggestions to everyone .
