This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Time Travel, Aliens, and Facebook!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's kickass selection of short films I think you folks might enjoy. We've got time machines, lovely ladies, handsome men (for the seven ladies out there), badass music, mesmorizing shots, snot nosed kids, and explosions of awesomeness. Whatever your favorite genre of film, I think you'll find something in this week's picks that you'll get a kick out of. I'll admit, I'm still coming off a JURASSIC WORLD high from that superb owl spot (which Harry wrote up here), so while I'm clearly counting down the days until it comes out (*cough 125 days cough*) - I'm also thinking "How cool is that - that Colin Trevorrow got to handle one of the biggest franchises to date? He was a relative unknown not more than a few years ago." Follow me here, that's just a reminder and a cool thought - just think, how many talented folks who've had their short screened here just might go on to handle massive franchises? It's a stretch of a thought, but I'm just lucky talented folks still shoot in their films. Anyways, that's enough jibber jabber - let's get this show on the road.

To kick this week off right we've got a new film from Red Giant's very own Seth Worley. You might remember their last short, PLOT DEVICE, and if you in anyway enjoyed that film - chances are you'll think pretty highly of OLD/NEW. It's got witty bantar, slick transitions, funny gags, and it's narrarated by Patton Oswalt. "Old/New is the story of Drew McHugh, a man whose penchant for the new -- new devices, new fashion, new friends -- is challenged when he discovers the rustic appeal of old-fashioned things. He quickly becomes obsessed with the reclaimed and well-worn - plummeting face-first down the rabbit hole of novelty and nostalgia."

Next up we've got a freaky horror straight out of Argentina film from Andrés Borghi. It's played at quite a few festivals around the world (roughly 40) and just hit the internet not that long ago. " It is about facebook and technology and ghosts."

Bullying in schools, it seems to be a major issue as of late. While when I was a kiddo, we absolutely had bullies - there just wasn't texting/facebook/etc... for them to keep getting at you. Ninos these days seem to have asshole kids who physically knock them around, then keep at it with Twitter and other social media platforms... At any rate, I think we can all agree "bullying is bad." Cyrus Mirakhor ahs created a pretty interesting perspective to the whole bullying scenario. "The Beating tells the story of the lengths to which one father will go to end a nightmarish problem of bullying at his son’s school."

Marina Fernandez Ferri has our next film, a tale of moving to the Big Apple and having it not be what you expected. "Dreams that New York inspires are not always sweet, even less so for the young Spaniard who yearns for connections in the city of frozen streets and lost glances. Temblor is a quiet short film from the intimate perspective of an immigrant struggling to adapt in the barren New York winters. Her imagination and fears come to life through a hybrid of live action and animated sketches. Based on the deeply personal experiences of first-time director Marina Fernandez Ferri, Temblor explores the isolation of every outsider in a foreign land."

And to wrap us up with this weekend, we've got a kickass music video from Christy Karacas and David Wilson that is sure to rock your world. It's got aliens! Some of you might recognize Christy's work as he's got a show on Adult Swim. SUPERJAIL! The band "Royal Blood" was clearly a fan and that ended up with a damn cool video:
