NED RIFLE, Hal Hartley’s Kickstarter-buttressed conclusion to the trilogy he began with HENRY FOOL nearly 20 years ago, will premiere at SXSW this March, and we now have a second trailer to follow up that first teaser from six months ago.
This seems to be more in line with the deadpan humor of HENRY FOOL than the appropriately titled FAY GRIM, and it’s great to see the old characters do their thing once again. It’s been really cool watching Liam Aiken grow into a man over the course of this series, and I’m excited to see him step up to full-fledged leading role status.
For Aubrey Plaza haters out there, I implore you to give her a chance here, as Hartley’s humor might be the perfect showcase for her sensibilities. She impressed me with her surprisingly nuanced turn as a demented zombie girlfriend in LIFE AFTER BETH, and I don’t think Hartley would cast someone with her level of visibility unless it wouldn’t detract from the narrative.
Anyone else stoked for Hartley’s return to the FOOL/GRIM-verse?
