Hey Yo, Draven here.
Warner Bros announced today that Ron Howard’s IN THE HEART OF THE SEA has been pushed back from its original March 13th date all the way to December 11th, 2015. To take over that March 13th date, WB has now moved the Liam Neeson led film, RUN ALL NIGHT up from its original April 17th date.
This is interesting as pushing it back to the middle of award season is usually a strong sign of confidence. The difference here is that this looks like a pretty big commercial film that will likely have a majority male audience, so why would Warner Bros schedule it just a week before STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS? My guess is that they are hoping award buzz will carry it through the first few weeks of STAR WARS.
Right after the trailer played in front of a screening of WILD that I was at there was an audible buzz amongst the crowd. A person behind me leaned over to his companion and told her that the movie, “looks really awesome.” So there is some commercial appeal and the trailer does play great in a movie theater, I am just a little curious as to why they actually pushed it back eight months.
