
David Letterman is leaving CBS at the end of May sweeps, but his replacement won’t debut until September, CBS chairman Nina Tassler revealed at a Monday Television Critics Association event.
Stephen Colbert, who left his Comedy Central show in December (Larry Wilmore’s “The Nightly Show” takes over its timeslot next week), will take over the Letterman slot Sept. 8.
CBS intends to fill the 11:30 p.m. slot with repeats of its primetime programming this summer.
James Corden, an Englishman, takes over Scotsman Craig Ferguson’s old CBS slot March 22.
Ferguson and his robot sidekick had been in talks to mount a syndicated half-hour talk show for Tribune Entertainment, but on Thursday reports indicated that project would probably not being going forward after all.
