I didn't mind the GODZILLA movie which came out earlier this year, although I thought it was a tad dull and nothing about its style or energy suggested to me that helmer Gareth Edwards should be taking on a STAR WARS movie.
Nonetheless he is, and regardless of my opinion, Edwards’ GODZILLA pulled down well over $500 million - thus the release of a monster mash sequel has been slated for Summer 2018.
However, it’s looking like Legendary’s ongoing GODZILLA productions may not be the only game in town. Seems the folks over at Toho - the enduring and fabled Japanese company which originated Godzilla back in 1954 - smartly retained rights to make their own damn Godzilla movies. And it seems they’ll be doing just that…
Production is slated to begin in summer 2015 and the film will be aimed at the global market.
Although Toho concedes it can't match $200 million Hollywood-size budget, advances in CG will allow it to create a film that can stand alongside such productions, according to a release from the studio.
…says THR HERE.
The next GODZILLA would mark Toho’s first Japanese movie since 2004’s GODZILLA: FINAL WARS, which famously and humorously smacked down Emmerich & Devlin’s Sony iteration of Big G…
…and sported this truly badass title sequence.
Look for Toho's next GODZILLA film in 2016. And the crowd goes wild…
