It's been over six months since we posted the first trailer to Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement's vampire mockumentary, WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS, and now we have a peek at the film in advance of it's U.S. release this coming February.
The film's a hilarious look at the day-to-day lives of a group of vampiric housemates in Wellington, NZ, as they struggle to feed, socialize, and maintain basic hygiene while dealing with the practicalities of being a member of the undead. Some vamps die, new ones are created, and there even manages to be emotional growth for some of the several-hundred-year fangbearers.
I saw this at L.A. Film Fest, and as with most films I see before the trailer's released, I'm miffed at how much they decided to give away. One of these jokes is quite literally in the last minutes of the film, and there are a number of reveals that suffer without their extended lead-ups. Still, I have to admit that this trailer is much funnier and true to the film than the one we posted in April, so if it convinces even one person to go see it who wouldn't have anyway, then I'll chalk it up as a win.
I loved the directing pair's EAGLE VS. SHARK, but I can't tell you how hard and consistently I was laughing during this one. I can't remember the last time the hit-to-miss ratio of jokes in a comedy was as large as it was for me here. If you're already sold, I implore you to wait 'till February (or whenever) to watch the film in its entirety, but if you're still not sure if this is for you, then by all means, click below.
