Hey Yo, Draven here.
Deadline has confirmed that Ryan Reynolds will be returning to play Deadpool in the recently announced film. He played the character for a couple of early scenes in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and originally a spinoff was scheduled but they fucked up the character so bad in that film that development on the spinoff stalled. Then, this summer we saw the release of some test footage (see below) that Reynolds filmed a few years ago as Deadpool. This footage was well received and generated interest in seeing a solo Deadpool film and so Fox put the film on the fast track for a release in February 2016.
Nobody knew if Reynolds would actually return though. His stock isn’t nearly as high as it was in 2008. He’s had a series of high profile disasters including the comic book films, R.I.P.D and GREEN LANTERN so there was speculation that Fox might want to get a new actor in the role. This isn’t a big tentpole film though so the risk isn’t as great as if they had him starring in another $200 million film so he's back.
It is cool though that after all of these years, DEADPOOL is finally happening with filming to begin in March for a February 6th, 2016 release date.
