Could someone else do it? Absolutely. I can easily see Joseph Kosinski - or another visual stylist - stepping into the position, and perhaps even handling the material quite well. But, truthfully, the notion of a BLADE RUNNER sequel without Scott at the helm diminishes my interest in the project considerably - even considering the admitted inconsistency of his product. BLADE RUNNER is, arguably, consummate Scott - and the thought of revisiting that world without him taking us there seems…hollow somehow.
Well, it appears Scott may agree with this assessment. In a recent interview with Yahoo, Scott backtracks on his previous comments a bit, implying that he may be coming back after all…
The British filmmaker told Yahoo he was reluctant to relinquish control of the sequel to his “most personal” film, revealing that the script is “very, very good.”
[EDIT]
"I don’t know about [not directing ‘Blade Runner 2’] yet,"
[EDIT]
It’s a hard one to track because it’s a very personal piece of my work."
”[‘Blade Runner’] may be one of the most personal pieces I did. I got so beaten up for it, I said I’d never try that again. But here we are. It’s sitting there ready to be made.”
…says Scott HERE, where you can view video of the exchange. Scott said decisions regarding his level of involvement with the project are “close.”
