[REC]4: APOCALYPSE Gets a January Release Date!

Hey guys! Horrorella here...

Fans of the (mostly) terrifying REC series can now rest easy - the film will be here before you know it. Variety reports that Magnet films has acquired the film for distribution, and is set to release it upon U.S. theaters, as well as VOD on January 2nd. Happy New Year, everybody!

The series created by Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza has been well-received by horror fans, with the first two films being nothing short of terrifying. The series took a bit of a turn in the third installment, which was a departure from both the found footage element, as well as the serious, menacing tone of its predecessors, opting instead for more of a traditional narrative and more humor. And while it was fun, I'm glad to see the final film getting back to business.

“[REC]4 picks up a few hours after the gruesome events of [REC]2, where an elite squad of soldiers has infiltrated an apartment complex teeming with the victims of a demonic possession virus that has transformed them into vicious killers, in an attempt to extract a young reporter, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco). Angela wakes up in a high-security quarantine facility located deep in the bowels of a giant ocean freighter. But her ordeal isn’t over, as the terrifying virus has made it on board with her, taking the series to a spectacular and bloody finish on the high seas.”
