This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Nuclear War; Regrets, and Comedy!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's fun selection of interesting films created and submitted by Ain't It Cool readers like you and me. This week we're truly all over the place, just the way I like it, with a few incredibly well made shorts that I think are pretty cool. As we get further and further from Halloween, the weather gets colder and colder, so while you most certainly can go swimming outside after you get done breaking up the ice, it might be a good idea to just stay inside, crank that heater up, and check out some films from all over the world right here in good old AICN-Land... So let's hop right on in and see what we've got lined up for this week!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

PHOENIX 9

TRT: 22:13

Whoa! Let's kick this puppy off with an incredible short film that is sure to blow your mind. Amir Reichart (Director / Editor) and Peer Gopfrich (Writer / Producer) have built an entire world around a lovely "what if?" scenario that explores an intriguing post-apocalyptic survival tale. "After a global nuclear war has turned earth into a scorched wasteland, a struggling group of survivors discovers a secret installation that offers a new beginning - but not without a catch..." According to Gopfrich, this is a concept piece for what he and Reichart hope will be a full length film. If you're interested in the short or just want to know a little bit more about it, then be sure to hit up their Facebook page!

LA LOTERIA

TRT: 8:21

I had the pleasure of screening one of our next director's films a few years back, DOUBLE HAPPY. I'm glad director Shahir Daud is back with his latest, a lovely piece about reflection. "While waiting for his plane to board so he can immigrate to America, Augusto Ramirez recalls the three biggest regrets of his life." For more info on Shahir, go get yourself over to his website and check out his other projects. He also just put a music video out, which I have a feeling more than a handful of you folks might want to watch.

QUENTIN AND LISA... AT THE GROCERY STORE

TRT: 6:53

Up next is our good friend Thane Economou's short from earlier this year. The film won "Best Short Film" and the LA Comedy Fest and I can see why. I love awkward humor and this puppy's full of it! "Filmed in a single, six-minute take, this is the story of two feuding exes who are unfortunately reunited while grocery shopping, resulting in a very awkward, very public display of spite." The short is a spinoff from a feature project Thane's looking to make called THE WEDDING PARTY, so if you like what you see here - be sure to check out that website!

OPPENHEIMER

TRT: 6:15

And here we have our last film of the week, a lovely slice of darkness served up by directors Keith Hodder and J. Mitchel Reed. "Based on a dark moment in the life of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, father of the atomic bomb, 'Oppenheimer' explores nostalgia, optimism, and betrayal under the threat of impending failure." I'd typically tell you where to go for more info on the film, but don't have a link to share. I really do hope to see more from these two!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
