Hey folks, Harry here... I saw this movie about a month or two back, and quite frankly... I've just never had the energy to talk about it. You see, I love John Ottman as an editor and composer... I think he does fantastic work. When I saw this film, I thought his direction was very nice.... BUT THE SCRIPT, THE ACTORS... oh whew... NOT UP TO PAR. I also felt that before reviewing it, I would need to see the film with a full audience, because... that is how you are supposed to see it... However, I don't get the impression that there will be too many full houses to see this movie with. Here's one person's look at the film... which is pretty darn accurate, though how the film started off when I saw the film was... pretty damn cool... the pre-title urban legend was very very good... the rest... not.
harry:
i had the unfortunate pleasure of attending a free screening of the horror film...excuse me, slasher film...slasher movie "urban legend final cut" the sequel to the washed out film "urban legend" some years ago. well, let me begin by telling you that i won't spoil any of the obvious plot twists (my nine year old sister could come up with better) or the list of characters that die (obvious to a capital "T").
the film starts off with the obvious plot line stolen right from the "scream" horror movie trilogy plot line. being a movie within a movie, a contrived notion that i hope dies with this film...dies right now as i write this review of sorts. let me tell you one thing, since it's hard for me to recall the drivel that was this film, i can't believe john ottoman decided to direct this movie instead of doing the score for the "x-men" which could have used his help. which leads me to talk about the score or this film, or lack thereof. the score is basically taken right out of alfred hitchcock's movies, pick anyone and you have the score to "urban legend 2" in a nutshell. which again leads me to compare this movie to the hit movie "scary movie", "urban legend 2" provides some of the funniest scenes ever in a scary movie. the audience i saw it with was dying by the insanity of it all. the movie was completely unbelievable, not one moment provided any type of realism. it was the "batman forever" of horror movies, yeah, that bad. it was like watching "scary movie" all over again, they should have peddled this movie as such...a comedy. and i'm glad the audience i saw the film with agreed with me, the constant cat calls, the constant yelling when nothing is happening, and the poking fun at the movie kept me entertained more so than this movie did. also, when comparing it to "scary movie", it bites off a scenes from the film "the blair witch project" over and over again. the movie is horrible, only the death scenes are good and that's because they are so gruesome, so terrifying, that it makes your skin crawl to watch. also, the ending (when the credits role) make for a good ending.
that's it, i'm sorry i rambled on and on about how much i detested the movie. but it's bad, not worth the price of a matinee ticket, unless you go with a group of college students...with a sense of humor. then the movies decent. i'm out, later harry.
