This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Ghost Ships, Green Screens, and A Handful of Funny.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's selection of interesting short films created by fellow AICN readers like you and me. I hope you fine folks had a festive Halloween last night and have amassed a bounty of sweets (be it stealing from your unsuspecting children or loading up on the post-Halloween sales). Hopefully you are totally down to sit back, relax, and feast your eyes upon some truly enjoyable films with that big pile of candy - that lovely little bit of diabetes inducing happiness. I've got three comedies and two thriller/horror/suspense style films for you, so you know we're in for a good time. So let's hop on in and check out some fun flicks, eh?

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

SEA DEVIL

TRT: 8:59

(Horror / True Story)

Let's get this show started with something rather spooky, a genuine story that will send chills down your spine. Our first film of the week comes from directors Dean C. Marcial and Brett Potter. The names might sound familiar and that's because Dean brought us a prett cool film called MAPPER about a year ago. "In the summer of 2012, an abandoned fishing boat surfaced on the shores of Miami, but the passengers were never found. Sea Devil is based on true events." And holy hell is it a solid film, no wonder the folks at Vimeo made it a "Staff Pick" days after it landed on the internet. If you like what you see, then be sure to check out their website and follow them on Twitter (@calaveraUSA & @borschtcorp).

STAR WARS VII - COMEDY SKETCH

TRT: 5:22

(Comedy)

Bam! Up next is a fun film (a la EXTRAS) from writer-director Owyn Stephens, a beautiful satire on the concept of filmmaking in the modern day. It's sincere and is unpredictable, so I hope you folks like it as much as I do. If you like what you see and want to see more from Owyn, then be sure to hit up his website!

THE ARCHIVIST

TRT: 10:08

(Supsense / Fantasy)

Here we have a fantastic tale from director Jeremy Ball. "The new assistant projectionist at an aging movie theater risks a confrontation with his supervisor when he investigates a series of mysterious disappearances. A playfully macabre tribute to the cinematic experience."

OFFICE GUYS

TRT: 2:34

(Comedy)

Our next one, from director James Corbett might not be for everyone. It's a slow build, but one that left me glad I saw it. Again, a lovely satire on our hands. "These guys are getting pretty sick of their office."

THE HALLOWEEN COSTUME

TRT: 2:06

(Comedy)

Whoa man, this next one's a fun one. On one hand, it's genuinely well acted - Honestly, the four folks featured are fantastic in their own unique ways. On the other, it's sure to offend some folks out there. Thane Economou did a good job with this one. Go check out his website when you get the chance!

And on that note, I'll catch you fine folks next week. Have a great week and go make some great films! (Just... send them to me at some point.) In the mean time, go check out some past columns:

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
