This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Sweetness, Blue Balls, and Epic Gun Fights!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's kickass selection of fun short films created and submitted by fellow AICN readers like you and me. Make no mistake, Horror/Comedy/Action are my go-to genres for having some fun/taking a break from reality. It doesn't hurt that the bulk of shorts that hit my inbox tend to fall into those categories. That said, not all films shot my way have aliens, psycho killers, or talking puppets - some, are deep/sincere films that make a point or highlight something that rarely is given the time of day. Welp, today my friends is a selection littered with high quality drama, with pockets of comedy to break up the seriousness (because... After all, this is Ain't It Cool). Regardless, each of the films below offer up something pretty cool, something that I think makes them worth showing you all, something that's got me saying "I've got to spread the word!" So without further jibber jabber, get ready to get immersed in some truly great shorts!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

Our first film of the day is just plain sweet. Filmmaker Nizar Pasalic brings us a lovely doc about two lovers. "[Between Days is] about an old couple that are still in love even after several decades of marriage. The woman is in a nursery home, with most of her body not functional due to a number of strokes, while her husband lives 90 km away. Every week he take the bus to visit her." Nizar's got some finely tuned skills and is able to maintain a level of true grittiness, while displaying something truly beautiful - a super fine line to dance on.

Boom! Ready for something drastically different from the short above? Derek R. Brigham and the gang at Through The Door Productions have something for you, a story of blue balls (literally). "On a quiet trip home, three friends discover that one of them has been single far too long." It's a little rough around the edges, but packs some genuine smirks!

Up next is a beautifully shot film from Dale Raad. "When life deals you a bad hand, reshuffle your deck."

Swish Bam! Yes! Here's a really badass film featuring the voice of Nick Offerman and has cowboys being awesome. It premiered about a month ago at LAFF and rocked the hell out of it from what I hear. "It features Nick Offerman as a bloodthirsty narrator in an Old West saloon whose voice can be heard by all of the patrons of the bar." Erik Kissack knocks it out of the park with this one, so be sure to check out his website for more fun stuff!

And let's end on a sweet note. Antonio Marzotto and Serena Patrignanelli have our last film of the day, a nice experimental film that explores a loving relationship told with little toys. "Love is big, life is short, we are small. A lifelong love story seen from the prospective of a 1 inch tall couple. An unusual look on the small (and infinitely large) things of which life is made." For me, it's a tad longer than I think is needed, but I find it pretty damn cool nonetheless.

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at ""

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
