The Ford Brothers’ African-set THE DEAD, while flawed, offered a new and interesting take on zombie films, as the survival tale of Lieutenant Brian Murphy (Rob Freeman), an American soldier and the only survivor of a plane crash, who has to make his way across a dangerous and unfamiliar landscape in the midst of a zombie outbreak in order to have any chance at returning to civilization.
The sequel sets a similar stage in India, and tells the story of an American turbine engineer (Joseph Millson), who is fight to reach Mumbai, where pregnant girlfriend is trapped.
These films are interesting in that they set the familiar subject of zombie outbreaks in unfamiliar settings. While THE DEAD suffered from pacing problems and stilted moments on the part of its cast, Howard and Jon Ford also used the zombie premise to effectively create some incredibly suspenseful moments. I’m hoping they are able to use more of that magic in THE DEAD: INDIA.
The film is set to hit DVD and Blu-Ray on September 16th. Shock Till You Drop has debuted this new, bloody red band trailer. What do you guys think?
