Tribeca Films has released the first trailer and poster for David Mackenzie's acclaimed prison drama STARRED UP.
The film stars Jack O'Connell as a nineteen year old who has spent much of his life in and out of the prison system. This latest round of incarceration has upped the stakes, however, and he finds himself in the adult penitentiary for the first time. It is here that he meets up with his estranged father (Ben Mendelsohn), who also happens to be serving time.
From the trailer, the film looks like an interesting examination of the prison system, as the administration seems to want to lock away O'Connell's character for as long as possible, and a counselor (Rupert Friend) argues that he can be reformed. The trailer also teases some potentially strong performances, particularly from O'Connell.
