At San Diego con I had the pleasure to talk with one of Verhoeven's producers about the future of Paul... and frankly... she told me that they have about three things on the plate but nothing is ready quite yet. The Jesus and Hitler projects are not yet ready. They were still awaiting the latest draft of the Victoria Woodhull script mentioned below. The '2 WWII projects' mentioned on Dark Horizons are neither WITH WINGS AS EAGLES, but completely different projects... and those scripts... well, they are still being written. So at the moment, it is very much up in the air as to what Verhoeven will next work upon. Here's what De Telegraaf... a Dutch newspaper said yesterday...

The Sober Dutchman here again with a story about the infamous Verhoeven. It's from the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.
Paul (Verhoeven) is 'top of the bill' again in Hollywood. But Verhoeven clearly longs for Europe, where he, the way he puts it, can make the films he wants to make. One of his big future projects, as a reliable source told me, almost certain will be a film starring Nicole Kidman.
Tom Cruise, Kidmans husband, would be interessted to produce. The most succesful filmcouple in the world has already been engaged into talks with Verhoeven over the filming of the life of Victoria Woodhull. She was the first female canditate for the presidency of the United States. Victoria campaned in 1872, fifty years before women were allowed to vote.
Paul also has plans to film a story by Guy de Maupassant, with Endemol founder and billionaire Van den Ende as producer.
In the article Verhoeven also declares to have become sick and tired of the American reviews he calls hypocrit. Although not mentioned in the piece, I recall that Verhoeven used to be furious over the fact that American culture had no problem with most kinds of violence, but that intercourse, an act known to and desired by most people, was a big no-no in films. "I can't show a man kissing a female breast, but if I let that same man cut that breast off with a knife, it's fine. That is sick."

Paul is dan ook weer 'top of the bill' in Hollywood. Maar Verhoeven verlangt nu duidelijk toch terug naar Europa, waar hij, zoals hij zegt, meer de films kan maken zoals hij die zelf wil. Een van zijn grote toekomstige projecten wordt overigens, zo hoor ik uit goede bron, zo goed als zeker een film met NICOLE KIDMAN in de hoofdrol.
TOM CRUISE, Nicole's echtgenoot, zou geïnteresseerd zijn deze film te produceren. Dit succesvolste filmechtpaar ter wereld heeft al gesprekken gevoerd met Verhoeven over de verfilming van het leven van VICTORIA WOODHULL. Zij was in 1872 de eerste vrouwelijke kandidate voor het presidentschap van de Verenigde Staten. Victoria voerde haar campagne in 1872 vijftig jaar voordat vrouwen toestemming kregen hun stem uit te brengen.
PAUL heeft onder meer plannen om met JOOP VAN DEN ENDE, die 'SPETTERS' met hem maakte, een verhaal te verfilmen van GUY DE MAUPASSANT.
