Freddy VS Jason Movie News!

Agent Kranix here has been going through withdrawls awaiting news on the Freddy VS Jason movie, which for us gore freaks... well we just wanna see it now. Personally I'm still waiting on the Scanners/Night of the Living Dead cross-over where Michael Ironside just wills zombies' heads to explode. (this is Harry make-believe, don't take it serious. It ain't happening. Really, don't get excited. Sheesh) However, Freddy and Jason hacking and scratching at each other comes in pretty high up in the 'gotta-see-it metter'. Also, this Kranix fella has an important question, he's dying... DYING to have answered. If you know, email him below. Sheesh... everyone knows that...

Long time reader, first time contributor. I know, I absolutely positively know, as many grunts and groans as this news is going to incite, there are a few that are into this sort of thing. (myself included).

The two iconoclastic powerhouses of modern horror, Fred Charles Krueger and Jason Voorhees are set to duke it out in The Freddy Vs Jason Movie, set to come out sometime between now and September of 1999. The reason i am being so vague is because in the Winter issue of NATO news, and on the New Line Website, FvsJ is listed as having a Sept 13 1998 release date. BUT, as the film is just now getting ready to shoot, exec prod Sean S. Cunningham says "I doubt that FvJ will see the light of day in 1998". It was then given a release date of early summer 1999, exactly a week after "Balance of the Force". No matter who would win in the FvJ showdown, box office wise, Obi Wan would whup their asses. So in the infinite wisdom that permeates the motion picture industry, FvJ has as of today 2/20/98 been given a Sept 1999 release date.

Many writers have been attached to the project, first was the guy who scripted Alien vs Predator and the original draft for Freddy's Dead. Next up was David J. Schow, of Crow and Fangoria fame. The current treatment was given to us by David S. Goyer and James Robinson. The director is f/x wizard Rob Bottin, and Sean S. Cunningham is executive producing. Both Robert Englund and Kane Hodder are definitely reprising their roles, and supposedly also returning from each series are Lisa Wilcox, John D. LeMay and Heather Langenkamp. This last bit is unsubstantiated, as far as I know, but Wilcox is really into doing it if asked, according to her agent. Freddy and Jason will also be appearing in their original forms, i.e. no New Nightmare badass Craven Freddy, and no melted Hidden Hellspawn Jason. AND, Todd McFarlane apparently wants his company, Todd Toys, to do the action figures for the film.

I do know that the plot revolves around a major event in each character's past, a group of fanatical Freddy worshippers, and some midgets. Okay, no midgets. I don't want to ruin anymore of the plot, and also don't want to unneccesarily hype anyone up if I am being lied to by my source, or if the film gets re-written.

If anyone has anymore info on this film, or can remember the name of the actor who was originally slated to portray Freddy (this has been bugging me for about 7 years), please email me. (Harry, if you would, pretty please, put a mail link here to melh@accesshouston.org. I am in Austin all the time, and I will hand deliver a Cheesecake to your door. You don't understand how important this is to me.) Answer his desperate plea and get Harry a Cheesecake!!!
