This Week's Saturday Shorts: Music, Game of Thrones, and Horror!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's selection of short films from fellow AICN readers. Last week I saw in the talkbacks something along the lines of  "Muldoon... what's the point of this column?" Well, fine question and you know I guess I've forgotten to explicitly spell it out in some of the more recent posts, but Saturday Shorts is a place that knocks out two birds with one stone: 1) Film lovers are shown short films that they might not have seen otherwise. 2) It's just one place for hardworking filmmakers to show off their material. I don't go out of my way to hide it, I work in film. My income comes from working on movies/tv shows, not from contributing things to the internet - I do Saturday Shorts for the same reasons I listed above - I like finding fun films that don't have many views (or hell, some with tons and tons) and showing them to my friends. At any rate, let's rock this - let's sit back, relax, and watch a few fun flicks from all sorts of filmmakers!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

I love GAME OF THRONES and HOUSE OF CARDS, so to see what Oren Kaplan has put together is nothing short of pure geeked out joy. Great work. If you like what you see, then be sure to hit up Kaplan's website!

Up next is a fun found footage film from John W. Holt. It's a solid way to spend 14 minutes if you're in the mood to experience something rather freaky. "As Christmas approaches in the small rural Kentucky town of Fancy Farm, the townsfolk are brought together as an unknown evil terrorizes the community.  Faced with the senseless slaughter of friends and family, these brave hunters take to the forest in search of the unknown.  Produced by the award winning A Goodsize Productions©, this jump-a-minute romp is a thrill ride of carnage that will leave you wanting more."

In the mood to get your laugh on? Cool, because the Varava brothers have a film for you! " The true and historically accurate tale of one tumbleweed that did not tumble." Check out the Varava Bro's site if you're curious about their other projects!

(Music Video)

I don't show many music videos here, but I'm a fan of Alan Cordell and love his work, so here's his latest video for Girl Talk, Freeway, and Waka Flocka Flame. Be cool, check out his website.

Straight out of Scotland comes out next short, eleven minutes of slow burned terror from Graham Neale! "A struggling writer witnesses a brutal attack on a young woman, he fails to come to her aid, and runs. When he returns to her, he hides his cowardice, lying about the events. He paints himself the hero, and the woman, comatose, his silent alibi. The writer struggles no more, his fiction now bound in book, his tell-tale heart soothed by success. Soon, sinister fans accost and quiz, cracking his veneer. His late nights now haunted by visions. Frayed, the writer returns to his source, the woman, that he might see light through the colour of her eyes." If you like his work, then see more of it on his website!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at ""

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
