Star Trek Nine News

Dr Soran sent in the following report about STAR TREK 9. Of course he is a known loon, bent on planetary destructions, but heck... who isn't. I tend to believe him. So read on and enjoy or mourn.

Dr. Soran back here again with a quick news bit about Star Trek 9. It seems ILM is too busy with some other movie (I wonder what that could be) to spare time for the Enterprise's latest journey. Here's the details. VIFX/Blue Sky Studios, a Marina del Rey-based computer animator controlled by 20th Century Fox, has been awarded the lion's share of a hotly contested feature-effects job by rival studio Paramount for the ninth installment in the "Star Trek" movie franchise. Veteran digital artist Jim Rygiel has been crowned visual effects supervisor for VIFX/Blue Sky, which will create all effects for scenes of the fictional planet on which most of the film's action is based. Santa Barbara Studios, an effects boutique with a work history on TV's "Star Trek," will handle space scenes for the film, again to be helmed by Jonathan Frakes. Locations for the movie are being scouted, and shooting is set to begin in a week of two. Among other bidders for the film's effects work were Digital Domain, Rhythm & Hues Studios and Sony Pictures Imageworks.

I'm pretty disappointed about this. I guess I understand ILM's position, though. I don't know when this info will be public, but I figured you'd want to know. Take it easy, and I'll keep my ear to the ground.
