Hey folks, Harry here with a heads up for you folks about upcoming events here in my hometown. You may want to come pay a visit and check these events out for yourself. They are... pretty damn cool, methinks.
First up is an event coming this Friday, August 18th at 7pm here in Austin. There is going to be a WAY OF THE GUN screening with Christopher McQuarrie (writer of THE USUAL SUSPECTS) with his feature film directing debut. Also, Nicky Katt (of V fame) will be in attendence. Now... so far we have only had one review sent in on WAY OF THE GUN (Click here to read) and it was pretty raving. It runs around $12 bucks with all the money going to the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund to benefit Texas filmmakers. Give the Film Soceity a call at 512 322 0145.
Then... just one week later, QT QUATTRO starts... the 4th Annual Quenten Tarantino Film Festival. 10 Nights of at least 3 films a night for $125. However, you must remember... there are at least two Saturdays with films from Dusk til dawn... meaning 5 to 7 films. Oh joy what a fest. I can't wait. A ton of the AICN crew is attending, and it is the great refueling of pure adoration for film. A place for joyful discovery of the medium we cherish. Film. From Kung Fu to secret agents to japanese monster to Italian horror to Sex movies to Spaghetti Westerns to good ol boys, cops and pimps... Hell even a great old Oliver Reed crime film I've heard a whisper about. A very intimate endeavor... I can't wait!
Then September 14th through the 16th... THE SECOND CANNIBAL FILM FESTIVAL at the Alamo Drafthouse... Including PARENTS, Buster Keaton's THE NAVIGATOR, I DRINK YOUR BLOOD and MOTEL HELL! Join your fellow cannibals in the fine human dishes that'll be served at the Alamo's all human meat handburgers and human meat pies... they're great.
Also... on September 16th at the Alamo, I'll be honored to be presenting William Friedkin and a beautifully restored print of THE FRENCH CONNECTION.
Then on October 12th through the 19th the AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL... which will also be attached to the Heart of Texas Writer's Conference which is an amazing conference containing the very best screenwriters in the business with all of their stories about the realm of film they love. Rumors are only just beginning upon the selection this year. I personally.. can't wait to see what we come up with here...
Beyond October will see a 3-D film festival, probably a special screening of TRAFFIC and much more... including... yes.... the 2nd BUTT-NUMB-A-THON... 24 hours of film, one night... your ass will never forget.
Hope to see you at some of this stuff.... more as I learn more.... adios...
