El Cosmico here, with a friendly reader's report from the screening of the new Witchblade series. Many thanks, Brinn71.
Hello, Brinn71 here.
I was one of the many who took in the free screening of the two-hour Witchblade movie/pilot for TNT and Top Cow Productions in Chicago last week (tickets compliments of the Top Cow booth at Wizard con-THANKS!). Without trying to give too much away I will say this; I had a good nap. I think this show could have been better if it was ONE hour instead of TWO. If I had to see any more scenes of Pezinni mourning or Nottingham just staring at her from the shadows I was going to lapse into a comatose state.
Yancy Butler as Sarah Pezinni was great for the role, as was the rest of the cast. The Toronto backdrop served as a great looking New York. The effects were only so-so. The veteran director, Ralph Hemecker from X-Files and Millenium did a fine job with what he had in regard to story, and the Witchblade glove looked good. The score (produced by Joel Goldsmith [son of Jerry]) was pretty neat if you like "hybrid styles of music". Silvestri commented that this show was character driven and very down-to-earth. This is true, but when the fantasy elements are introduced it hits you like a brick square between the eyes. I must say however I don't believe for a second that the "story" sells the comic, I believe its that lack-of-a-costume that grabs most of the readers attention. ***Stop now! Read no more!!! Proceed for one MAJOR SPOILER...IF you dare!***

At the end of the episode the Witchblade transforms into the full suit. "The one in the comic!?!?!" you may ask? HELL NO! It turns into a FULL SUIT OF MEDIEVAL ARMOR! You may as well call it the Joan of Arc suit cause that's what it looks like. Back to my point about the "lack of a costume". The suit of armor didn't do it for me. It covered up that gorgeous bod of Butler! A crime to all I say!!! I only wish the whole thing was more fast-paced. I probably wont watch the show if it goes to series.
