Kissing A Fool -- World Premiere!!!

Here's a review of that David Schwimmer flick, KISSING A FOOL. I guess there must be some people out there interested in this flick. Just cause I don't personally know any of them doesn't mean anything. After all he can't be all that bad... can...he? I don't know, that "Droopy" look of his is wearing awfully then, I always favored the wolf in them Avery toons. I mean, I was the wolf. The wolf is a great symbol for film geeks the world over. And Red Hot Riding Hood is the queen of cartoon f*cks, if ya get my drift you depraved fellow film fans. Ahhhhooooooooogah! Oh damn, I just realized I have gone off on a long line that isn't anywhere near where it should be, and would probably never intersect. I'll let ya go, and listen to Screwy Squirrel's World Premiere Coverage below...

Just wanted to send you a spoiler-free review of the film "Kissing a Fool". I was lucky enough to snag an invite to the premiere last night in Westwood. To be perfectly honest, I hadn't really heard anything about the film and I'm not a big fan of David Schwimmer so I considered not going, but when someone mentioned that Salma Hayek was supposed to be attending I suddenly had a change of heart.

Anyway, Salma was a no show but I ended up seeing a really good film. "Kissing a Fool" is a funny, intelligently written romantic comedy. Schwimmer plays a womanizing Chicago sports anchor who is set up by his best friend (Jason Lee), an author, with his editor, played by newcomer Milli Avital. They hit it off immediately and within just a few weeks are engaged to be married. As the wedding day looms, the groom (Schwimmer) starts questioning whether his bride-to-be will be able to remain faithful. Enter the major plot point. He tries to convince his best friend (Lee) to put the moves on her to test her faithfulness and the movie takes off from there as the three characters explore there feelings for each other.

The performances by all three of the leads were terrific. Schwimmer was perfectly cast as basically an endearing asshole and provides some of the film's funniest moments. Milli Avital is beautiful, intelligent and completely believable as someone guys would make fools out of themselves over. Jason Lee? Well, Jason Lee is just the shit. For those of you who, like me, thought he was great in his Kevin Smith films, it's just cool to see him get this kind of role in a mainstream comedy. He's the sensitive guy in the story so he gets to show some range while still being really funny. I think this could be the sort of breakout performance that will really broaden his choice of roles in the future. Props are also in order for (first time?) director Doug Ellin. For someone with little or no feature experience he showed a remarkably sure hand and a wonderful sense of timing.

The film was actually made without a distributor in place for only 3.5 million dollars. Universal picked it up for a song so they have the potential of really making out on this investment if they market it right. Hopefully, folks will give this movie a shot, I think they'll be pleasantly suprised if they do.
