This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Puppets, Snowmen, and Space!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here running on fumes to bring you this week's selection of kickass shorts I think you should check out! I've been shooting all sorts of fun stuff today and am a little tapped out of creativity it seems, but hot damn if these shorts didn't shake me awake. We've got an incredible amount of talent packed into today's picks, so whether you're craving a feel good flick (Snowman!) or something a little more disturbing - rest assured you'll get just that in the films below. So let's get this show on the road and hop around from one fun film to the next!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

TRT: 1:00

Up first is a short and sweet (well...) film from SATURDAY SHORTS alum Elwin Rijken. This one was made for a competition where dialogue wasn't allowed. It'll leave you with a "whoa, what the hell?" vibe. It's a compact and well shot story. (Check out Elwin's site.)

TRT: 15:45

Next up is a film from Charles Frisby of Grunge Pictures. "Popular internet blogger Alexis suffers from a mental breakdown as mysterious visions in her mirrors haunt her every waking moment. Can Alexis overcome her escalating hallucinations, or will her efforts be.... IN VAIN."

In Vain (2013) from Charles Frisby on Vimeo.

Here we have a film sent in from Amanda Row of Oak & Arrow. I'm the first to admit it, drama isn't something I typically seek out - I've got enough of it in my own world. This film however is something I'm glad landed in my inbox, something I'm glad I get to share with you all. "A young man returns to a traditional life in rural Newfoundland after tragedy strikes."

The World Is Burning (2013) from Oak & Arrow on Vimeo.

Up next is more of a video than a short, but it's cool in a "Well, isn't that just precious" kind of way. From Benjamin Gross, we get one solid minute of happy people being excited to see little snowmen!

TRT: 21:50

And last, but not least is a film from director Mark Buchanan. "As humanity bears witness to the first manned mission to Mars, an astronaut faces up to the prospect of being left behind."

Mission from Phase VI on Vimeo.

That's it folks. Now I'm off to check out the ever-so-awesome Lloyd Kaufman with his new flick: RETURN TO NUKE 'EM HIGH Volume 1! I hope you guys and gals had fun watching these shorts - I sure dide. I'll see you all next week. Keep making awesome stuff!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at ""

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
