Hey folks, Harry here in Madrid wishing he was in San Francisco last night to check out MONKEYBONE, the film starring me and a bunch of other folks. The odd pacing is something that could possibly have been expected... The last third of the film has a strange... ummm... FREAKY FRIDAY-esque vibe to it, that I don´t think all that many people are expecting... and in a weird ass way... it takes you out of the imaginative world of DarkTown and back into the weird world... but with wildly bizarre antics that... well come out of left field... Now I can´t say how this plays in the film, but on the script page... it sort of played like the very very end of DEEP RISING... "What now!¿" (sorry, damn Spañish keyboard) On the page it seemed to work... though from the pair of reports we have thus far... seems that there might be some editting to be had... Let´s hope it comes together... it has to... It´s my starring role... it hasn´t a choice but to be great... me and Rose McGowan star, and I´m spraying my hose all over the place.... here´s the report...

I was at the same MONKEYBONE screening that Firesky saw, and she'll be relieved to know that the focus group at the end only included 2 teenage girls (and 2 teenage boys) in a group totalling 20. Most of the participants were in their late 20's/early 30's.
Her comments about the odd pacing of the movie are right on, though. The first half -- maybe first two-thirds -- are morbid and twisted and funny, but the last third goes off the tracks, with slapstick comedy and zany misadventures. Chris Kattan was great, and so was Brendan Fraser. Bridgette Fonda was given little to do other than cry and look worried.
The first part of the movie was enough to make me think that there is some hope for it. It had a Tim Burton-esque quality and some really dark imagery, and I found myself enjoying the obvious intelligence behind it. The second part, however... sigh. It was as if the director of Deuce Bigalow took over the helm. Suddenly we get fights dangling from helium balloons, wacky medical examiners, and Brendan Fraser singing "Brick House" on stage.
I'll be really curious to see how this turns out after the next round of editing.
If you use this, call me....
