Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with some fun shorts for your viewing pleasures - shorts created by fellow AICN readers like you and me. While Sundance is blowing up with all kinds of news flying out of there, I'm glad you're here with me today to get your fill of rebellious filmmakers doing whatever it takes to get their stories told. We've got an assortment of genres today, but if you were looking for creepy horror or Sci-Fi fun, fear not! Muldoon's got you covered. On that same note, if you're the type who likes to dabble in the occasional experimental short, bam! you should be all set. There is a rarity here today, one of the shorts below is actually in French and without subtitles (MICROPOLAR), which is actually pretty cool - film is indeed a visual medium, so even though I have no clue what they are saying, it's got emotions that are universal. So let's hop on into it. Let's watch some shorts.

Filmmaker Jan Gallasch gets this week's selection off with a solid and ever so creepy film that reminds you - there's some sick folks in this world. "Every year over 200.000 people die of medical failures - not all of them are accidents..." If you like what you see, then come on over to Jan's website and poke around!

BRUCE LEE PLAYED BADMINTON TOO

Alright, shake the creepiness off from that last lovely short and put on your Badminton gloves (which I think exist, but I'm not quite sure). Straight from Australia, we got a fun film from filmmaker Corrie Chen. "Awkward suburban teenager Nic Wooding wants to be the greatest badminton player in the world, much to the dismay of his demanding racist father, a former tennis champion. Meanwhile, their last remaining white neighbors, the Neils, have moved away and are replaced by the Cheongs, a Chinese man with his 16-year-old daughter, Jenny. With the local badminton competition on the horizon, Nic rebels against his dad's wishes to learn that following your dream may lead you to a bird of a different feather." MICROPOLAR

Here we have a film from director Michael Jeanpert. Michael manages to cover a wide range of emotions in this fast paced short, so even if you aren't fluent in French - you're still going to have a good time. "The short tells the story of a cop chasing his brother, an organ dealer, to try to take him back to the good side of the law, but he will end up pushing him the other way…" (I myself used to be known as an organ dealer back in the day - stealing the hearts of lady after lady.) Jokes aside, Jeanpert's got a lovely future ahead of him, so be sure to get in on the ground floor over at his vimeo page where there's all sorts of other great pieces of his work.

IMPERIAL HIGHWAY

I typically avoid posting webisodes here on SATURDAY SHORTS, but thought this one was just too damn cool. I love the motion graphics in the direct middle of the thing. This one comes to us from Mr. Chris Gaede. "Shattered glass, pretty girls punching each other, laser guns, flaming jet scooters, aliens in human disguise, an impaled eyeball, and an argument over the nature of why an angry girlfriend is a bonus…just another day on the job for the Imperial Highway agents."

Closing us out with this week's picks is Austin, TX filmmaker Jeff Ray and his sexy short experimental music video, created for the Icelandic band Sigur Rós as part of their Valtari Mystery Film Experiment last year. Jeff shot, edited, and directed this beauty.
