QT's Next Film May Have A Title And Some Casting!

Nordling here.

Quentin Tarantino has been making rumblings the past few months that he's been working on another screenplay to direct, and that it might be another Western.  Considering the genre and how much it's influenced him in his life and career, I figured that QT wasn't done with the Western quite yet, even if he is thinking of retiring as he said during last year's Oscar push for DJANGO UNCHAINED.  I'm still waiting for his RIO BRAVO.  And, according to Deadline, his next film has a (tentative) title and even some nets thrown out for casting.

It's all speculation on Deadline's part, but Mike Fleming sounds pretty sure - Tarantino's next movie will be called THE HATEFUL EIGHT, and according to Fleming a draft is making its way to actors that Tarantino is interested in casting.  One of them is Christoph Waltz, which shouldn't surprise anyone, but another is 77-year-old Bruce Dern (who also appeared in DJANGO UNCHAINED), which makes one wonder what kind of movie THE HATEFUL EIGHT will wind up being.  If Quentin Tarantino is going after older actors, is this something along the lines of RIO BRAVO or even Sam Peckinpah's THE WILD BUNCH?  Dern is no stranger to Westerns either - I love his villainous turn in John Wayne's THE COWBOYS - and I imagine it wouldn't take much for him to get back in the saddle, no matter how old he is.

Also according to Fleming, this could still be an early draft, and no offers have officially gone out yet.  I love the title and all it suggests - perhaps the last hurrah of a group of outlaws?  No matter. Quentin Tarantino is making another movie, which is alone cause for celebration.

Nordling, out.
